Many folks have bought their CD, Jewell Ridge Coal, at the Appalachian Arts Center, where it is one of our favorites. Come enjoy songs of the coalfields and of love come & gone!
Appalachian Arts Center is especially excited to have this performance be a part of the statewide celebration "MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts".
This will be an intimate music treat with a limited number of seats available. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Arts Center.

(RESCHEDULED FROM DECEMBER-DUE TO THE WEATHER)

Artisan for March is Katie McLaughlin. Katie lives in Tazewell County, VA. She has raised sheep and hand-spun their wool for over 20 years. Her Lincoln, Cotswold, and Leicester sheep are all longwooled varieties. She washes, cards, picks, and spins the wool into yarn completely by hand. The colors of the yarn come from the various natural browns and grays of her sheep. From sheep-to-shawl and in-between.

Katie will be appearing at the visitor center on Saturday, March 27th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. She will have some of her products for sale and will be demonstrating some of her works. Along with Katie, Mary Martin, local basket maker will be appearing with her goods.

The Tazewell County Fair is held annually each summer at the fairgrounds near Tazewell Virginia but we are also involved in several other events throughout the year. Those events include pageants, spelling bees and of course the activities surrounding the fair itself such as the demolition derby, golf tournament, livestock shows and competitions, horse shows, petting zoo, carnival and much much more. The Tazewell County Fair maintains a focus on our heritage and tradition while embracing the future!

    Major Clarence Tatum is the first officer to retire from the Tazewell County’s Sheriff’s Office with over 30 years of continuous time. In 1974, after leaving the military, he came back to Tazewell County going to work for Cedar Bluff Police Department as Chief, for Two years. In fall of 1976 he was hired by the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office. Clarence was a road deputy for a year then became an investigator / detective and Bloodhound handler. Through the years Clarence has worked with three different Sheriff’s; Sheriff Osborne, Sheriff Johnson, and the current Sheriff Caudill. In the campaign year of 1999, Clarence himself ran for Sheriff as an independent, along with four other candidates, being succeeded by Sheriff Caudil...
